Team Owner: Brett Haeger
Driver: Chris Haeger
Throttles: Karl Wall
Chris Haeger (Topher) – NZ: Driver #16
At 19 years old Chris is one of the youngest competitors in the NZ Offshore series.
2014 was the year Chris really made an impact and added some serious credentials to his Offshore CV when he stepped up to Driver of our Sports 150 entry and claimed the 2014 Championship trophy making Chris the youngest person ever to win a NZ Offshore Powerboat Championship.
Chris was then invited to Australia to drive for Kwozzy Offshore Racing in their Supercat 400 entry and not only went into the record books as the youngest person to compete in the Australian Offshore Championship, but is also the youngest person ever to Win a round of the Australian Series.
Kwozzy went onto win the 2014 Supercat 400 Championship and Chris was rewarded with being named as team driver on the trophy.
To top off Chris’s outstanding achievements both here and across the Tasman, Chris was awarded the Under 21 Trophy by the NZ Offshore Powerboat Association.
2015 season and Chris once again was crowned the NZOPA Sports 150 Champion. Also for the 2nd year running Chris was awarded the Under 21 Trophy by the NZ Offshore Powerboat Association.
Chris’s driving ability has been highlighted in Whitianga’s notourisly rough conditions where Chris was put to the test competing against his Offshore Teacher Jono Hanley. Not only did Chris beat Jono, but he also beat his 150hp class competitors as well as all the 200hp competitors, coming home right behind Outboard Pro (300hp) It was this race which cemented our decision to step Chris up into something a little more challenging for the 2016 Season
Karl Wall (Doctor) – AUS: Co-Driver #16
Karl Wall has been around the Australian Offshore scene for many years (more than he will admit)
Starting out racing his mates in Ski Boats and slowly progressing into his current aussie ride, a 1600hp 45ft Offshore Catamaran for the Tradeulator Team, Karl has raced them all – successfully.
NZHL Offshore met Karl in 2014 when Chris was invited to race for Kwozzy Offshore in Townsville (AUS) – As they say, the rest is history
Karl and Chris gelled straight away and halfway through Race 1 the 2 drivers were confident enough in each other’s ability to have Kwozzy2 drifting around the corners at full throttle.
Kwozzy2 went onto win the 2014 Supercat 400 Championship with a different driver in every round, but still with Dr Karl by their side on the throttles.
After purchasing our new boat a trip to the Gold Coast to sign up Karl to once again sit next to Chris in the cockpit was a formality, with Karl jumping at the opportunity to once again race with his favoured Driver.
With Karl’s experience in Offshore Racing and a background as a Mercury High Performance dealer, we really are privileged to have The Doctor on our Team.
Unfortunately Karl’s 12 year old son Lachie passed away unexpectedly late in 2015 – Although we won’t have Lachie helping us in the pits, Lachie will be in our thoughts and 2017 NZ Offshore Season will be for Lachie Wall
